Influenced by Chinese culture historically, neighboring countries, such as Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Mongolia, are used to following the lunar calendar and they share similar Zodiac culture with China. The zodiac signs of Japan, Korea and Mongolia are the same as the Chinese ones, but some of Vietnamese zodiac signs are different. Vietnamese have the cat instead of the Rabbit as a zodiac animal. The most common explanation is that the ancient word for "rabbit" (mao) sounds like "cat" (meo), misleading Vietnamese to take the year of Rabbit as the year of Cat.
